Job Description Summary

As a General Production Associate at American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. (“AAM”), you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of manufactured parts (Steel Forgings and Machined Components) by performing sorting (Visual and Gage), identifying and documenting defects, and complying with all AAM and customer specific requirements.

Job Description

• Effectively and efficiently sort parts, allowing zero defects to be passed through to the customer.
• Safely use tools and equipment during the Sorting Process and/or other General Production activities and functions.
• Demonstrate the understanding of 5S and housekeeping techniques.
• Assist with and/or perform other General Production activities and functions as needed.
• Communicate effectively with Supervisor(s) on a regular basis, keeping them updated on progress and issues that may arise.
• Maintain a safe operation by adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

• Able to stand/walk for 8 – 12 hours.
• Frequent lifting/moving parts weighing 5 – 50 pounds.
• Frequent pushing/pulling/bending.
• Occasional cold and hot working conditions (Winter and Summer months).
• Occasional outside work.
• Moderately loud noise levels.
• Wearing proper PPE, including, but not limited to, steel toe/composite safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, and bump cap/hard hat.

Required Skills and Education

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Basic math skills (Example – Addition and Subtraction, working with decimals in both inches and metrics).
• Ability to work daily and weekend overtime as scheduled.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, machinery, and equipment.
• High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
• Willingness to learn and become proficient in General Production activities and functions.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Able to pass a forklift certification test.
• Certified through the company to operate a forklift.
• Must adhere to all safety requirements.
• Must show willingness to demonstrate Q4 and S4 principles in daily job duties.
• Must show attention to detail, maintain a productive attitude, and have the willingness to take the extra steps needed to ensure the job is done correctly and on-time.

PREFERRED:

• 3 – 5 years of production operations experience, particularly in high volume manufacturing.
• Experience in the automotive forging, machining, or similar industry.
• Operating knowledge of Plex.
• Familiarity with a union environment.
