Product Engineer

Job Description Summary

AAM is searching for a Product Engineer to join our team. This position will be based out of our World Headquarters location in Detroit, MI.


As a Product Engineer, you will complete tasks related to lifecycle management for forgings, machined components & sub-assemblies. Projects are complex, requiring cross-disciplinary integration and wide application of concepts. You will also communicate program open issues to internal teams and the customer, support the implementation of VA/VE cost reduction, and root cause and corrective action of warranty returns.

The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. They will also have strong communication skills, along with a knowledge of forging & machining processes.

Job Description

• Lead all PE initiatives to support product launches & required product/process changes to meet productivity targets.

• Plan, initiate, and track activities related to the validation of temporary or permanent engineering solutions.

• Coordinate activities with product engineering and customer to gain written acceptance of proposed changes (i.e., Alerts, SREAs, PVP&Rs, etc.).

• Analyze and interpret test data, making appropriate design recommendations based on the results.

• Communicate status and testing results to customer and internal departments via both written reports and oral presentations.

• Provide technical direction to test technicians, manufacturing, and process engineers.

• Presents analytical reports to internal and external customers.

• All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or similar

• 1-3 years of product engineering experience.
