Job Description Summary

AAM/Dauch is searching for a CMM Programmer/Process Development Specialist to join our team. This position will be based out of our Detroit, MI location.


The successful Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Programmer is one that is conscientious, detail orientated, and a self-starter able to work from a verbal or written instruction. They are committed to quality, precision, and timeliness in their deliverables. These deliverables are achieved while maintaining a safe and organized working environment

Job Description:

  • Utilize CMM using Zeiss Calypso ​software and inspection equipment i.e., height gauges, micrometers, bore gauges, surface analyzer, etc. to measure/layout complex components to engineering requirements.

  • Utilize NX to create 3d models of CMM fixtures.

  • Write CMM programs and using CAD models and/​or blueprints to measure complex components to verify conformance to engineering specifications and standards.

  • Interpret and understand complex technical documentation such as blueprints and specifications.

  • Perform and certify inspections & tests in accordance with technical documentation.

  • Maintain inspection documentation (written, electronic and photographic).

  • Strong level of interpersonal/communication skills to work effectively with management, engineering, suppliers, and customers.

  • High level of problem-solving skills to identify/perform root cause analysis on machining issues and offer recommendations for resolution.

  • Successfully complete measurements and tasks on time to aggressive schedules.

  • Able to manually lift and manipulate heavy objects (Up to 35 lbs).

  • Ability to use lift assist devices for heavier objects.

  • Comply with all AAM safety policies and procedures.

  • Available to work overtime if required.

  • Travel may be required to assist the machining team in other locations. (Could be 10%)

  • Ability to work independently while exhibiting teamwork skills with co-workers and others.

  • Committed to maintaining excellent housekeeping and safety practices.

  • Proficient computer skills, especially in MS Office applications.

  • Must demonstrate flexibility on job assignments

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • 2-year Associate Technical degree plus at least 2 years' experience in a mechanical or electronics related field or high school diploma plus at least 5 years' experience in a mechanical or electronics related field.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in automotive, aerospace or prototype manufacturing operations.

  • CMM programming with Calypso software and inspection layout.

  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and 3D CAD software.
