Job Description Summary

#TeamAAM is looking for a Lead Functional Safety Engineer to join our team in Detroit, MI.

As a member of the Driveline Product Engineering Safety and Compliance group, functional safety engineers help AAM ensure that our products are functionally safe, of a high quality, and fit for purpose. This individual will support product engineering teams in ensuring AAM products implement an acceptably safe architecture through all phases of development.

Job Description

• Projects functional safety task planning, estimation, and tracking.
• Leads development of technical safety requirements, safety concepts, and safety mechanisms.
• Identifies potential hazards related to functional safety and implements effective mitigation strategies.
• Leads/facilitates the development of system, subsystem, electrical hardware, and software safety analyses & FMEDA.
• Leads the performance of safety verification, conformance measures, and safety audit relating to specification, design, and verification of safety-related embedded control systems.
• Leads the provision of functional safety guidance to product engineering work products for specification, architecture, design, and verification of safety-related embedded control systems.
• Drives AAM’s functional safety lifecycle as detailed in AAM policies and procedures.
• Leads the development of work packages in accordance with ISO 26262.
• Leads the development of ASIL A/B C/D and ASIL C/D Automotive electrification technical safety concepts, component requirements and verification activities.
• Works with external suppliers and auditors for achieving functional safety compliance.
• All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

• Automotive Functional Safety Professional (AFSP/CFSP) or Automotive Functional Safety Engineer (AFSE) certification.
• Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. degree in automotive, mechatronics, electrical, or software engineering or a related field.
• 6-8+ years of hands-on experience performing functional safety development, delivering work products, performing confirmation measure and defending in assessments.
• In-depth knowledge of inverters, high power electronics and AUTOSAR.
• Excellent communication, influential leadership, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively and problem solve.
• Hands-on experience with functional safety & development tools such as Medini Analyze and IBM Jazz Team Server preferred.
