Senior Instrumentation Technician

Job Description Summary

AAM is searching for a Senior Instrument Engineer to join our team. This position will be based out of our Rochester Hills Technical Center location in Rochester Hills, MI.
As a Senior Instrument Engineer, you will perform the calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of complex instrumentation and control systems. This role requires hands-on experience with electronic test equipment, servo-hydraulic systems, and instrumentation software platforms. A strong foundation in electrical/electronic systems and a disciplined approach to precision work are essential.

Job Description

• Maintain and repair AC/DC drives and servo-hydraulic controllers.

• Calibrate analog and digital controllers and instruments.

• Tune electrical and hydraulic control loops to meet system performance standards.

• Record and verify test equipment calibration data to ensure compliance with specifications.

• Coordinate and manage external calibration services as required.

• Create and maintain instrumentation records in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and APEX Gage Calibration systems.

• Build and repair wiring harnesses and test cables.

• Set up and dismantle mechanical fixturing for force calibrations.

• Read electrical schematics and troubleshoot systems down to the board level.

• Maintain communication across teams by documenting actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs.

• Contribute to continuous improvement by adapting to change and identifying opportunities to enhance processes.

• All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• 2 years experience in the mechanical, electrical or automotive testing field.
