The Automation Engineer will support the installation, maintenance, and optimization of machinery and automation systems used in manufacturing. This role requires cross-disciplinary integration, problem-solving, and the ability to apply controls and robotics concepts in an industrial environment.Job Description
- Design, modify, and review electrical schematics, ladder logic, HMI programs, and Safety PLC control systems for machinery and automation.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards in manufacturing environments and incorporate safety principles into controls design.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers to ensure consistency to company equipment specifications.
- Apply knowledge of mechanical and fluid power systems in automation applications.
- Integrate and program robotics and PLC systems, demonstrating a strong understanding of systems integrations.
- Work with equipment design teams, providing recommendations for optimal equipment design and integration.
- Diagnose and resolve automation and control system issues efficiently.
- Manage numerous projects with general direction and minimal supervision.
- Be responsible for the electrical installation of equipment, coordinating with contractors as needed.
- Provide technical support to plant maintenance and controls teams.
- Mentor and train junior engineers and engineering students.
- Work with Allen Bradley PLCs, ControlLogix, Servo Controllers, HMI software, Fanuc Robotics, and Keyence or Cognex vision systems.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA and OSHA regulations.
Required Skills and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field from an accredited institution, or relevant Trade School certification.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a control engineering role.
