#TeamAAM is looking for a Coordinator Automation Engineering to join our Driveline team in Detroit, Michigan. This is a hybrid role.The Coordinator Automation is responsible for leading the strategy, development, implementation, and optimization of automation solutions for axle machining and assembly processes. This individual will work multi-functionally with product engineering, plant operations, maintenance, and external partners to drive innovation, improve productivity, and ensure equipment reliability across all manufacturing sites.

Job Description
- Planning and Leadership:
- Leads the automation strategy for machining and assembly operations across multiple manufacturing plants.
- Develops and implements roadmaps for automation deployment, including standardization of controls, platforms, and components.
- Manages a team of engineers and technicians who are responsible for equipment automation projects.
- Project Management:
- Oversees end-to-end automation projects: concept, design, integration, commissioning, and handoff to operations.
- Ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, while meeting safety and performance objectives.
- Manages capital equipment procurement and vendor selection for automation systems.
- Technical Expertise & Support:
- Provides expert guidance in robotics, PLC/HMI programming, vision systems, motion control, sensors, and I/O networking.
- Leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle times, improve quality, and reduce labor content using automation.
- Collaborates with maintenance and production teams to resolve technical issues with automated equipment.
- Standardization & Governance:
- Develops and maintains global standards for automation architecture, software, safety systems, and documentation.
- Supports creation of preventative maintenance strategies and spare parts standards for automated systems.
- Training & Talent Development:
- Mentors and develops automation team.
- Leads training initiatives for maintenance and operations personnel on new automation equipment.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in industrial automation, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Deep understanding of CNC machining, assembly automation, robotics (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, KUKA), PLCs (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens), and HMI systems.
- Experience managing large capital projects and working with automation integrators and equipment OEMs.
- Proven track record in deploying automation in high-volume manufacturing environments, preferably automotive or heavy industry.
- Familiarity with safety standards (e.g., NFPA, ANSI, ISO 13849), risk assessments, and CE compliance.
- Experience with axle or drivetrain component manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Industry 4.0, IoT, and digital manufacturing technologies.
- CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) for equipment layouts.
- Understanding of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to support automation at other facilities, such as AAM manufacturing plants, suppliers, and equipment integrators.
