DEI at AAM

AAM is committed to powering a diverse and inclusive culture where Associates have the ability to thrive and feel a sense of belonging. We also believe that our diversity drives creativity, and that an equitable and inclusive culture encourages, supports and celebrates the unique voices of our global workforce. Our AAM vision is to POWER a more sustainable future while providing value to our stakeholders, which includes our most important assets: our Associates.

As we work to create a brighter and more sustainable future, our Associates are at the center of everything we do. We are committed to providing a safe, healthy, diverse and equitable workplace where every member of #TeamAAM feels comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work each and every day.

AAM has made a commitment to do more than ever to build up our company, our local communities and the world we wish to see. We will continue to implement internal and external initiatives that create a path toward a better AAM and a better future.

PEOPLE-FIRST CULTURE AAM’s greatest responsibility is to our people. To be successful in business and in pursuit of a more sustainable and equitable future, we must first ensure all AAM Associates are safe, welcomed, appreciated and respected in the workplace.

We are committed to attracting and retaining the sharpest, most creative minds in the industry. We provide our diverse team with a resource-rich environment that encourages, develops and emPOWERs individual and professional growth, and nurtures AAM’s future leaders.
DEI STRATEGIC ROADMAP
AAM’s DEI Strategic Roadmap is focused on five key pillars, pictured here.

We have developed action plans for each pillar to help measure our continuous improvement. Please click here to learn more about how we are building a sustainable future with our Associates.
AAM’S 2+1 GLOBAL DEI PROGRAM In 2022, we launched our Global DEI 2+1 Program, designed to enable global participation in our DEI journey. Each of our approximately 85 facilities in 18 countries are focusing on our two overarching topics: Valuing Differences and Gender.

In addition, each country has selected one country-specific DEI topic important to their culture and region. Local DEI topic options include: Age/Generation, Communication Style, Physical/Mental Ability, Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity, Race and Ethnicity, or Religion and Spirituality.

Our leadership team has used these focus areas to establish 2030 goals. Global 2+1 action plans have been completed and progress will be measured annually.
DEI STEERING COMMITTEE Comprised of talented, passionate and diverse Associates, AAM’s DEI Steering Committee members act as change agents and DEI ambassadors. They help develop new company initiatives designed to advance a respectful and inclusive culture, and reinforce the importance of inclusion. The group meets regularly to discuss topics, including DEI events and celebrations, talent development and recruiting, community engagement, DEI upskilling and regional support.

ASSOCIATE RESOURCE GROUPS

Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) are voluntary, Associate-led networks within #TeamAAM that are formed based on shared experiences, characteristics or backgrounds. They, along with supportive Associate allies, enhance career development and contribute to personal growth both inside and outside of AAM. ARGs also develop and implement cultural awareness programs and events. The following are AAM’s current ARGs. We look forward to additional groups and local chapters launching in the future!

IN THE COMMUNITY Giving back to the community is in our DNA. We have a responsibility to aid the communities where we live and work. AAM’s commitment to our communities is an integral part of our identity and is built on our cultural values of integrity, teamwork and responsibility.

We strive to make a positive impact around the world through both financial commitments and Associate volunteerism. In 2021, we relaunched the AAM’s global Charitable Contributions Program, which is aligned with our commitment to DEI. Including Associate giving, AAM committed more than $1 million in charitable contributions in 2022.

Our commitment extends to organizations that support families, youth outreach, education, well-being and social equality. Associates contribute financially to these organizations and can volunteer their time and talents to make a meaningful impact. AAM salaried Associates are also encouraged to volunteer during 16 working hours to support local charitable organizations.
RECRUITMENT AND TALENT DEVELOPMENT At AAM, we understand the Associate life cycle begins in the recruitment phase even before candidates join the AAM family. AAM’s Talent Acquisition team continues to make progress in incorporating an inclusive talent acquisition process. Some of our practices and achievements include:

  • All full-time AAM recruiters and Lead Global Talent Acquisition Partners are certified through the AIRS Diversity Recruiter Training Program.
  • Upskilling our Associates to detect and mitigate bias through trainings and seminars.
  • Partner with hiring teams to ensure interview panels are comprised of diverse Associates.
  • Increased executive leadership engagement in championing and sponsoring targeted university and organization recruitment efforts.
  • Partnered with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Servicing Institutions to expand our recruiting of underrepresented talent.
  • Active memberships in organizations, including Business Leaders of Michigan’s DEI/Racial Equity Committee, Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement (CADIA), CADIA CEO Coalition for Change, GM Supplier Inclusion Board, Michigan Council of Women in Technology, and Women in Manufacturing.
