The Quality Engineer is a service-oriented role responsible for supporting Engineering, Manufacturing, Customers, and the organization’s Quality Management Systems. The position champions quality initiatives, manages internal and external audits, and ensures customer expectations are met through continuous improvement and adherence to standards such as IATF 16949 and ISO 17025.Job Description
- Function as the “Voice of the Customer,” ensuring risks are identified and effectively managed; serve as primary contact for all customer concerns and coordinate timely 8D responses and corrective actions.
- Maintain all customer quality databases and ensure timely and effective responses to both internal and external customer concerns.
- Lead PPAP activities, from launch through customer approval and pre-production readiness.
- Maintain and update quality documentation including Process Flows, FMEAs, Control Plans, work instructions, appearance reports, and test data.
- Serve as the team expert in SPC, GR&R, GD&T, capability studies, and data analysis.
- Develop testing strategies and conduct analyses to support product development and problem resolution.
- Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities and champion cost-saving initiatives including risk, scrap, and rework reduction.
- Assist manufacturing team leaders in resolving issues that impede production success.
- Train and support staff on Standard Operating Procedures, AIAG Core Tools, and quality-related topics.
- Manage and maintain internal and external quality systems including IATF 16949, Honda Global QAV-1, Ford Q1, AAM Q4th and others.
- Serve as Management Representative for IATF 16949, ensuring compliance with corporate Quality Policy and customer-specific requirements.
- Oversee the internal and layered audit programs—plan, schedule, review findings, and ensure timely corrective action.
- Administer document control and ensure compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO 17025 standards.
- Review customer websites and other websites monthly for revisions and communicate updates to customer-specific requirements and quality standards throughout the organization.
- Conduct supplier and subcontractor system audits; assist with supplier PPAP approval.
- Support A2LA and ISO 17025 requirements and conduct annual internal audits and assist during A2LA audits.
- Prepare materials and report on key metrics for Management Review meetings.
- Assist with self-assessments such CQI-9, PPIA, Q4th and customer audits.
- Travel to customer sites, including internationally, as required.
- Perform all duties safely and respectfully, using required PPE and observing designated safety zones.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Education
Education:
- Associate Degree in Applied Science, Engineering, or related field required.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in quality systems, customer interaction, audit preparation, and compliance.
- Working knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 17025 standards.
- Effective communication skills—verbal and written.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, including internationally.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- IATF 16949 Lead Auditor (certification preferred; training available for suitable candidate)
- ASQ Certifications (CQE, CQA, or CQT preferred)
- Proficient in:
- AIAG Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC)
- GD&T and Gage R&R
- Problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why, DOE, Six Sigma, Shainin)
- Magnetic Particle Inspection
- MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access preferred)
- Quality Systems: AAM CAR System, Plex, SmartLPA/Parsable
- Statistical tools such as Minitab
