Job Description Summary

The Raw Materials & OSP buyer is responsible for managing raw material supply and negotiations for the AAM directed buy steel program as well as the raw aluminum contracts in support of the AAM Aluminum Casting Division. Additionally, they are responsible for managing the OSP Outside Service Providers (OSP) primarily comprised of machining suppliers supplying the AAM Metal Forming Division.

Job Description

  • Purchase goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Ensure the best continuous supply of required goods and materials  
  • Manage all aspects of supplier relationships as well as development of the supply base strategy
  • Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible
  • Deliver and update reports as required (Variance analysis, Budget forecasts, KPI updates, Power Point presentations, etc.)   
  • Prepare RFQs and bid analysis
  • Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers in accordance with AAM procedures 
  • Evaluate potential new suppliers in cooperation with Supplier Quality and the business’ cross functional team 
  • Create blanket purchase agreements, LTA agreements if applicable, tooling purchase orders, spot buys, etc., with awarded suppliers in accordance with AAM procedures
  • Process internal cost requests
  • Comply with all Internal and External audit requirements
  • Coordinate with suppliers and business partners to resolve routine issues such as assisting the plants and Supply Chain management with delivery issues, work with finance on price/invoice discrepancy resolutions, assist with cost recovery actions, updating POs, etc.
  • Participates in VAVE idea creation and work with the team on implementation and read across opportunities.
  • Be a communication liaison between the supplier and AAM plant associates.
  • All other duties assigned
  • Travel required, as determined by management

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, major in Supply Chain, Engineering, or Business preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years previous purchasing experience
  • Related manufacturing experience, or an understanding of component machining processes preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of raw material as a commodity to purchase preferred
  • Basic knowledge of corporate purchasing policies and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Proficient computer skills required – Plex business system preferred. (Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Travel required, as determined by management

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Analytical numerical wise with strong proven solving abilities
  • Result oriented with the ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines
  • Good oral and written communication skills required
  • High degree of planning, attention to detail and organizational skills required
  • Travel required, as determined by management
